According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the probability that an infected person can contaminate goods with the virus is very low. The risk of getting infected with the coronavirus through a package that has travelled long distances and been exposed to various external conditions and temperatures is also very low.
Studies suggest that coronaviruses can only survive on surfaces for a short period of time.
If you are still unsure, you can clean all parcels and products you receive with a simple disinfectant to protect yourself and others. You should also clean your hands with an alcohol-based hand disinfectant or wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water. And avoid touching your eyes, mouth or nose.
Unfortunately, due to the high volume of traffic in the shop at the moment, it might take a little longer for a page to load. We ask for your understanding.
COVID-19 in humans is caused by the novel coronavirus SARS-CoV-2, which has its origin in China. The Friedrich-Löffler-Institute (FLI), the German Federal Research Institute for Animal Health is monitoring the current epidemic situation and has published the latest scientific findings. Currently, researchers suspect that the human coronavirus was originally transmitted to humans by bats, pangolin animals or snakes. Recently, a case was reported where the viruses were also detected in the nose and mouth of a healthy dog in Hong Kong. However, the experts believe that the dog, now in quarantine, caught the virus through close physical contact with its sick owner. According to current findings an actual infection should therefore be discounted.
If you are in quarantine yourself, it is advisable to ask a member of your family or a close friend for help with caring for pets, especially where walks are concerned. No specific quarantine measures for dogs of sick people have been announced.
At the end of 2019 the first cases of the novel infectious disease COVID-19 in humans were announced in China. Currently, thousands of people worldwide are suffering from this disease and the origins of corona virus SARS-CoV-2 have not yet been fully clarified. According to current scientific knowledge, the respiratory disease was transmitted to humans via bats, pangolin or snakes. The Friedrich-Löffler-Institute (FLI), the German Federal Research Institute for Animal Health, has classified the transmission of SARS-CoV-2 from humans to cats and vice versa as unlikely. COVID-19 is also not thought to pose a health risk to dogs and other animals such as pigs or chickens, although a Hong Kong dog tested positive after examination of its nose and mouth. However to be classed as a genuine infection, the corona virus must be detected in the body, which is why it is assumed that superficial contamination of this dog was caused by close physical contact with an infected person. Nevertheless, good hygiene practice should be observed when handling pets.
Although COVID-19 is probably not dangerous for dogs and cats, you should pay more attention to general hygiene measures when handling your pets, especially if you or your pet shows symptoms of illness:
Avoid close contact with other animals and people, as well as between you and your pet, avoid close cuddling, licking, etc.
Wash your hands thoroughly after each contact, at least 20-30 seconds
Faecal remains should be disposed of immediately and the cat litter tray, as well as your home should be kept clean
We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your understanding and look forward to continuing to provide you and your pets with everything you need. Stay healthy and keep your pets safe.
